Change of Plans

Well I am not going to do the NPC competition in March. I will be doing the NGA show in May! Its actually the same show I did last year. I think its a great show and they had good judges. There were many participants last year so it will give me good competition. I started officially training a month ago with Angel Garridos. He knows what he is doing as I see proof in his own competition pictures.

I'm in a muscle building phase right now. I've never ate so much protein in my life!! I am so full after every meal, its hard to eat again in 3 hours. I feel bigger...not necessarily fatter, but I can feel my muscles filling out. Angel isn't too concerned about my scale weight right now as he says sometimes you have to let your body get a little body fat so that it feels comfortable in building more muscle.

Last week was Christmas and I got really sick, so needless to say I took a week off. But as tomorrow is the first day of 2012, I have a great desire to get back on the ball...for good!

The one thing that is going to make this year's training different than last year is....a boyfriend!! It was good for me to do the show last year as I had something to look forward to and put time into something I enjoy, but after I had made the commitment to my coach to train for a show this year, along came this handsome man and we've just hit it off. If I went into this relationship before I committed to do a show, I most likely would have not agreed to do the show because of the amount of time this sport requires. But I have his support and I know this is it, my last chance to see what I'm made of! :)

Torn

Making the decision to train for this competition has been very difficult the last few days. Monday I had decided no. Yesterday was maybe. Today it's yes again. I'm being torn with this idea that some people say doing a competition is "inappropriate" or "vain" or "immodest". I could see if those were the intentions of competitor, then yes, it would be inappropriate. However I am NOT doing it for any of those reasons. I have been into fitness and wellness since junior high school. I graduated from BYU in Exercise Science, Fitness and Wellness Management. For the past 4 years my career has been involved with exercise, nutrition, and wellness. I not only believe in my profession - I live it. Not only do I feel a responsibility to know how to live a good healthy lifestyle, I will be the example. Its not easy, but is it worth it? Yes. Nothing can compare to how good I feel.

Here I go!

The purpose of this blog is to not only give myself some accountablility, but to keep a record of this experience as I train to compete in the NPC (National Physique Commitee) in March of 2012 (Figure division). Maybe this will even help motivate and change someone else's life. I never EVER thought I'd be able to do some kind of bodybuilding competition, however with some encouragement from my friend, I trained and competed in my first Figure Competition in May 2011 and took 4th place in the tall class. I recieved some really great feedback from the judges who highly encouraged me to do another show and said I have some great potential. So here I go!

Oh - and why the name "Buffness"? When I was a freshman in High School, these two boys ran past me during our 3 lap warm-up in P.E. and one said "Holy cow, your calves are bigger than mine! I'm gonna call you Buffness." It kinda stuck through high school with some people. To this day, my Dad still says "Hey Buffness!" when I come home for a visit. :)
